Emmanuel's First Steps
November 16, 2022
Before we met Emmanuel, his world was very small. Born with a physical disability, he spent most of his days inside a small, one-room house. His parents, like many others in their community, didn't have access to the resources or knowledge to help him. They loved him dearly, but felt helpless as they watched him struggle with simple tasks like sitting up or reaching for a toy. They believed his future was limited.
Our HAM-Mission team first visited Emmanuel and his family through our Child and Family Rehabilitation Programme. We brought with us more than just medical knowledge—we brought hope. Our physiotherapist, Mercy, began working with Emmanuel once a week, gently guiding his little legs and encouraging his muscles to strengthen. We also sat with his parents, teaching them simple exercises to do with him every day and helping them understand that their son's potential was limitless. We connected them with other parents in our "Family Matters" group, where they found a community that truly understood their journey.
Slowly, Emmanuel's world began to expand. With each home visit, he grew stronger. One day, he sat up on his own for the first time. The next month, he began to crawl. Today, at just six years old, Emmanuel is not only walking, but he's also attending school. He loves playing with his friends and is a curious, energetic boy. Emmanuel's story is a powerful reminder that every child, regardless of their circumstances, has the right to a full and dignified life.
